Metal Monday – 12/01/14 Edition

Had way too much to eat this weekend so as I wobble around in a perpetual semi-food coma state, I’m going to milk last week’s Lamb Of God train a little more because…well…I’m lazy. Today’s track is We Die Alone, a bonus goody from the 2009 album, Wrath. I’ll spare you a rehash of last week’s rant about the not-so-anti-war Left and get down to the meat and potatoes. This isn’t so much about the song as a whole, but a particular line in the song:

The faces light up their screens,
As the wealthy cash in on the war.
The body counts rise, the ratings will soar.

Amidst the fog of war and spin from the media, it’s easy to forget that war is a very real endeavor that must be funded by someone – and even more so, someone must supply the weapons. Thanks to compulsory taxation, a cornerstone of government cronyism, companies like Halliburton and Lockheed-Martin make out like fat cats. And as far as the rising body count, U.S. drone strikes have claimed more American lives than ISIS. Never mind the now legal act of indefinite detention, forfeiture of Fourth Amendment rights, domestic spying, government harassment of unpopular groups, and a tab for crippling debt that will be passed to tax paying citizens. No, apparently a rag tag group of extremists is a threat to the American way of life.

……riiiiiiiight

Check out We Die Alone from Lamb Of God. Lyrics are below.

A moment in time worthy only of solitude.
A stranger not meant for another to see.

Are we the abandoned?
Are we the deserter?
Lived in the night so his wickedness way.

The faces light up their screens,
as the wealthy cash in on the war.
The body counts rise, the ratings will soar.

Another deceiver.
The liar, the patriot.
Counting the lies and keeping the score.
The score.

Look at the light based on faith that deserts you.
You are the hunted, the victim, the prey and the fallen.
We die alone.

A lamb in the line has been lead to the slaughter.
Another to join all the ghosts from before.
(Join all the ghosts from before.)

Another believer, another casualty.
Can’t tell the way out from a drain to the floor.
The floor.

Look at the light based on faith that deserts you.
You are the hunted, the victim, the prey and the fallen.
We die alone.
